Our motoring page celebrated the introduction of a new British sports car, the Austin Healey ‘Sprite’. Retailing at £668 17s, it was claimed to offer fuel consumption of better than 40mpg, not bad even by today’s standards. Acceleration, however, described as ‘snappy’ was less favourably comparable: 0–70mph in 34 seconds.
