Neil Thomas finds that you don’t have to go far to get away . . .

When planning a weekend break, one of the main requirements is generally to ‘get away from it all’.

In that light you may think it slightly arch that a magazine for Shropshire recommends ‘getting away from it all’, at a hotel in Shropshire.

And admittedly, if you live in Market Drayton or Newport and certainly Cheswardine or Hinstock, then you won’t be getting any great distance away from it all.

Stay with me on this one, though, for you could live next door to Goldstone Hall and still, as you walk into the elegant reception area with its period trappings and crackling log fire, feel that liberating sense of escape.

For surely that is what the best weekend breaks offer; the chance to leave behind the routine and pressures of everyday life to recharge the batteries and lift the spirits.
